What if you need to cancel your trip?
One of the most common reasons people consider travel insurance is the worry that they may have to cancel their trip and lose money they’ve already paid for it. Life is unpredictable and it’s impossible to know what might happen between planning a trip and leaving. If you think you're spending more on your vacation than you can afford to lose, you may want to consider buying travel insurance with Trip Cancellation coverage.
Sickness or injury before or during a trip
What if you or a traveling companion become sick or injured and can’t travel? Or a non-traveling family member is hospitalized or passes away and you are unable to make the trip? In those situations, many travel insurance coverages could help you out.
If you need to cancel your trip because your child is sick and can’t travel, you could be reimbursed for your prepaid, nonrefundable trip costs.
If you are injured during your trip, travel insurance may cover your medical expenses, including an ambulance ride. Many health insurance plans do not cover international travel.

Lost, stolen, or delayed baggage
With travel insurance you can be reimbursed for lost, stolen or damaged baggage or personal items and a plan with Baggage Delay coverage can pay you back for the purchase of necessary items while your bags are delayed.
Benefits for buying insurance within the first 15 days after your initial deposit
If you have a pre-existing medical condition that you want to be covered during the trip or if you want to have the option to cancel for any reason and be reimbursed 50% or 75% of your trip cost, then buying insurance within 15 days of your initial deposit is a requirement.
Buying travel insurance when balance payment is made
If you do not have a pre-existing medical condition or you do not want to be covered for cancellation for any reason, we advise you not to purchase travel insurance until you make your final trip payment. This is because once purchased, your insurance premium may not be refunded; instead, you may simply receive a voucher to use the premium for a future trip. Be sure to know the travel insurance terms and conditions before you purchase.
Cancellation or disruption for travel conditions/restrictions
In order that the insurance company refunds traveler for Trip Cancellation or Interruption, it must be for one of the reasons stated in the insurance policy of the traveler. You may review the policy even before you purchase it.
Non-insured travelers
Traveler will be fully responsible for any expenses during the trip due to sickness, injury, trip delay, baggage delay, etc. and will receive no reimbursement for these expenses. With cancellations before departure, the monies paid to Catholic Heritage Tours will be reimbursed according to the cancellation schedule on Catholic Heritage Tours’ Terms and Conditions.
Non-insured passengers will not hold Catholic Heritage Tours liable in any matter that would have been covered by travel insurance.
Review Period
The review period is a defined period of time, usually 15 days, within which travelers can review their travel insurance policies after buying. It’s essentially a grace period that allows you to get acquainted with the policy you have purchased, make sure that you fully read and understand your coverage, and make any adjustments necessary. Generally, you may also cancel your policy during this time and receive a refund.
Rights and Responsibilities
Yes, you have the right to amend and even cancel your policy during the review period; however, you also have the responsibility to be sure you truly understand the terms of the policy in full. If you don’t understand something to your satisfaction, you should contact the insurance company. Being diligent about your own research now can save you from frustration due to a misunderstanding about your coverage later.
Changes to your policy
While there are some changes that you can make to your travel insurance policy up until the day you depart on your trip, there are other changes that cannot be made once you’ve purchased; for example, you may not be able to add or remove a traveler from your policy once you’ve bought it. Make sure you give information as accurately as possible when you purchase a travel insurance plan so that you don’t have to go back and amend things.
